90% design for Bugesera Airport completed On 2nd March 2010, UK consultants TPS and their counterparts GIBB Africa presented the 90% design of the new airport for Kigali, to be located in Bugesera district.
The airport will be a phased development, allowing for maximum flexibility to expand according to need. Phase 1 of the development will consist of a single terminal and runway with safeguarding for the future and construction of a second terminal and a second runway.
Initially, the Bugesera Airport will be able to handle one million passengers a year, and 15,500 tonnes of cargo.
