Energy and Water are critical elements of sustMinister Ruhamyaainable economic development. Without access to both, there would be no progress as other sectors including education, health and mining are intertwined and interdependent.

Energy is a basic requirement for all Rwandans, whether for cooking, lighting or other services and devices. MININFRA is committed to exploring modern and sustainable sources of energy, thus increasing access to energy and ensuring the country follows a green development path.

Access to clean and affordable water is a human right, and Rwanda is on track to meet Millennium Development Goals as well as other targets set out in the National Vision 2020 to provide portable Water and hygienic sanitation services to the 100% of the population.

However, it is also important for us to remember, as members of the public, that we have a collective duty to use resources responsibly and efficiently, and be mindful of waste generation. We intend to develop a green business programme that will assist and recognise businesses that operate in an environmentally friendly and responsible way.

By working together, we can make sure Rwanda promotes and maintains its reputation for being an environmentally friendly, innovative and sustainable developing country

I thank you!

Hon. Eng. Coletha U. Ruhamya.
